Question

A 50 m long train passes over a bridge at a speed of 30 km/h, if it takes 36 secs cross the bridge, what is the length of the bridge?

Open in App
Solution

Step 1: Given

Speed(s) = 30 km/h= 30×518 m/s = 25/3 m/s

Length of train(l)= 50 m

Let the length of bridge be x m
Distance covered by train(d) = (50+x) m
time taken(t) = 36 s
Step 2: Formula used
Distance = Speed × Time

Step 3: Finding the length of the bridge
50+x = 253×36
50+x = 300

x = 300-50=250 m

Hence, the length of the bridge is 250 m.
