A ball is moving with velocity 5m/s towards a heavy wall which is at rest as shown in figure. Assuming collision to be perfectly elastic, find the velocity of the ball immediately after the collision.

Solution
The correct option is A5m/s towards left Given, mass of the ball (m1) is very less as compared to the mass of the wall (m2)
Speed of ball before collision (u1)=5m/s
Speed of wall before collision (u2)=0m/s
Let speed of ball after collision (v1)=vm/s
Speed of wall after collision (v2)=0m/s
In case of elastic collision, when m1<<m2 v1=−u1+2u2 ⇒v=−5+0=−5m/s
i.e velocity of ball is 5m/s towards left.
