A block of wood of dimensions $5cm\times 20cm\times 10cm$ is kept on a table top. The mass of the block is $2kg$. Acceleration due to gravity is $9.8m/s^{-2}$. Find the pressure exerted by the wooden block on the table top.

Thrust $\left(F\right)=Weightoftheblock=mg$

$=2kg\times 9.8=19.6N$

Area of the table top $\left(A\right)=length\times breadth$

$=20cm\times 10cm$

$=\frac{20}{100}m\times \frac{10}{100}m=0.02m^2$

$\therefore P=\frac{F}{A}=\frac{19.6N}{0.02m^2}=\frac{1960}{2}N/m^2$.

$=980Pa(Since1Pa=1N/m^2)$.
