The correct option is C 2 N
In general if there is no friction acceleration for free falling is a = g = $10 m / s^{2}$
now due to friction $a_{n e t} = 5 m / s^{2}$
Retardation due to friction $= a_{f r i c t i o n} 10 - 5 = 5 m / s^{2}$
Friction force f $= m a_{f r i c t i o n} = 0.4 \times 5 = 2 N$
