Question

A bus starts from rest and attains a speed of 36km/h in 1minute while moving with uniform acceleration along a straight road. Calculate the acceleration of the bus.

Open in App
Solution

Step 1 - Given:

Initial velocity (u) =0m/s.

Final velocity (v) = 36km/h = 36×1000(m)3600(s)=10m/s. (1km=1000mand1hr=3600sec.)

Time taken (t) = 1minute = 60seconds.

Step 2 - Calculation of acceleration:

Acceleration is defined as the rate of change of velocity.

The formula for acceleration is given by,

acceleration=finalvelocity(v)-initialvelocity(u)timetaken(t)

a=10-060=1060=0.166m/s2.

Hence, the acceleration of the bus is 0.166m/s2.
