A can do a piece of work in 20 days which B alone can do in 12 days. Both started working together, B worked at it for 9 days. A can finish the remaining work in
(a) 3 days
(b) 5 days
(c) 7 days
(d) 11 days
The correct option is (b) 5 days
A′s 1 day's work =120
B′s 1 day's work =112
Both's 1 day's work =120+112=1×320×3+1×512×5 [∵ L.C.M of 20 and 12 is 60]
=3+560=860=215
B′s 9 day's work =112×9=34
Remaining work (to do by A) =1−34=14
A can finish 120 work in 1 day.
∴ A will finish 14 work in 1120×14=20×14=5 days
