A car A of mass 1500 kg is travelling at 25 ms−1 collides with another car B of mass 1000 kg travelling at 15 ms−1 in the same direction. After collision, the velocity of car A reduces to 20 ms−1. Calculate the velocity of car B after the collision.

The correct option is C 22.5 ms1
Given, mass of car A, m1=1500 kg; initial velocity of car A, u1=25 ms1; initial velocity of car B, u2=15 ms1; mass of car B, m2=1000 kg and final velocity of car A, v1=20 ms1.
Let final velocity of car B be v2.
According to law of conservation of momentum, we know
m1×u1+m2×u2=m1×v1+m2×v2
Substituting in the equation, we get ,
1500×25+1000×15=1500×20+1000v2
52500=30000+1000v2
22500=1000v2
v2=22.5 ms1
