Solution

The light bluish green crystalline compound is FeSO4.(NH4)2SO4.6H2O (Mohr's salt).
(i) Its aqueous solution gives a brown precipitate or colouration with alkaline K2[HgI4] solution. This is due to presence of ammonium ions.

(ii) Its aqueous solution gives a blue colour with K3[Fe(CN)6]
solution. This is due to presence of Fe(I) ions.
FeSO4(C)+K3[Fe(CN)6]KFeII[FeIII(CN)6](H),Turnbullsblue
(iii) Its solution in hydrochloric acid gives a white precipitate with BaCl2 solution.
This is due to presence of sulphate ions.
BaCl2+SO24BaSO4(white)+2Cl
