Length (l) of the matchbox = 4 cm
Breadth (b) of the matchbox = 2.5 cm
Height (h) of the matchbox = 1.5 cm
Total surface area of the matchbox = 2 (l × b + b × h + h × l)
= 2 (4 × 2.5 + 2.5 × 1.5 + 1.5 × 4) cm²
= 2 (10 + 3.75 + 6) cm²
= 2 (13.75 + 6) cm²
= 2 (19.75) cm²
= 39.5 cm²
∴ 39.5 cm² of coloured paper will be needed to cover the matchbox.
