Question

A motor boat starting from rest on a lake accelerates in a straight line to a constant rate of 3.0 MS-2 for 8.0 years how far does the boat travel during this time

Solution

Is it 8 years?? Well you definitely gotta check on that.

still,

we know
s= ut+½ at²
where, s = distance, t is time, a is acceleration, u is initial velocity.

As, initially at rest, initial velocity = 0.

acceleration = 3m/s^2
Hence
s = ½ at²
Time, t = 8 years.
Assuming its not a leap year, no of days in 1 year= 365
No of days= 365 × 8
No of hours = 365×8×24
No of seconds = 365×8×24×60×60 = 31536000

Hence
s = ½ ×3 ×31536000²
s= 149177894400000 m.

I believe that time is not 8 years. It must be 8 seconds.

If t is 8 seconds
Then
S = ½ ×3×8² = 96 m.

Please check if time is 1 year, once again.
