Question

A particle is moving in a circular path of radius ' r ' .What is the distance covered and displacement of the object after covering half the circle ?

Open in App
Solution

Dear student

Since distance is nothing but the total path length covered by that object. So, after completing half of the circular path or radius "r", distance travelled by particle = (2*pi*r)/2= pi*r

After covering half of Circle , The particle will be at diametrically opposite end.
AS WE KNOW,
DISPLACEMENT is the shortest distance between initial and final positions of object .
SO THE DISPLACEMENT OF OBJECT = DIAMETER OF CIRCLE =
2 * RADIUS =
2*r=
2r .
