The correct option is B $1080$
Suppose he purchased x articles of each type.
Then, Total C.P. $= \frac{x}{5} + \frac{x}{4} = R s \frac{9 x}{20}$
Total S.P. $= \frac{2}{9} \times 2 x = R s \frac{4 x}{9}$
Total loss $= \frac{9 x}{20} - \frac{4 x}{9}$
$\Rightarrow \frac{81 x - 80 x}{180} = 3 \Rightarrow x = 3 \times 180 = 540$
$∴$ Total number of articles $= 2 \times 540 = 1080$ .
