Question

A platinum resistance thermometer has a resistance of 140.5 W at 100oC and 100.0 W at 0oC. When it is in contact with a hot gas, its resistance becomes 305.3 Ω. The temperature of the gas is (Assuming temperature coefficient of platinum is 0.004/oC) close to ____ oC.

Solution

The correct option is A 512
The temperature resistance relationship of platinum is given by,

R2=R1+Roα(T2T1)

T2=T1+R2R1R0×α

T2=100+305.3140.5100×0.004=100+412

T2=512oC
