Question

A room is 7m long and 5m broad and it has a door measuring 2m by 1.5m and two windows each measuring 1.5m by 1m. The cost of painting the walls at Rs12.50 per sq.m is Rs 825. Find the height of the room.

Solution

Area of the walls to be painted= Area of 4 faces of the room - Area of the door- Area of 2 windows
=7× h+7× h+5× h+5× h(2×1.5)(1.5×1)(1.5×1)=24h33=24h6
Area of wall painted=Cost of painting the wallCost of painting 1 sq.m of the wall
=82512.5=66sq.m
Thus, 24h6=66
24h=72
h=7224=3m
Thus the height of the room is 3m.
