If CHCl3 sample contains phosgene (COCl2 )  then it will give a white ppt. When treated with

AgNO3 solution in the cold.

However, after boiling CHCl3 with alcoholic KOH , the resulting solution will always give white ppt.

with AgNO3 solution whether it contains( COCl2 ) or not.
