Solution

The correct option is D deuteromycetes
Deuteromycetes class of fungi is commonly known as ‘the fungi imperfecti’. It is a class of fungi that comprises all forms of fungi in which a sexual stage is either absent or not known. If their sexual cycle or forms are discovered, then they are moved to their rightful classes. The mycelium is usually septate and branched. The deuteromycetes usually reproduce asexually by asexual spores called conidia.

Ascomycetes have septate mycelium and are also called ‘sac fungi’, due to the presence of a reproductive sac, known as an ascus. It is formed during the sexual cycle in all members of the group.

Basidiomycetes have septate and branched mycelium. Sexual reproduction takes place by plasmogamy (fusion of protoplasm without the fusion of their nuclei) between two vegetative or somatic cells of different strains.

Zygomycetes are also called the 'conjugation fungi' as they reproduce sexually by conjugation. The mycelium in zygomycetes is aseptate.
