Question

A skydiver weighing 60 kg moves through a distance of 40 m upwards in 2 seconds. The power spent by the skydiver due to its weight (in Watt) is ___ . Take g =9.8 m/s2

Solution

Power spent by the skydiver = work donetime

Work done in 2 seconds = force × displacement
Since the force exerted is same as the weight of the skydiver, F=mg =60×9.8=588 N
Work done = force x displacement=(588×40) J
So, power spent in 2 seconds =(588×402) W=11760 W=11.76 KW
