Are all tissues the same?

Open in App
Solution

Tissues:

  1. They are a group of cells having similar shapes and functions.
  2. The functional groups of tissues combine to form organs.
  3. Animal tissues are mainly of 4 types.

Types of tissues in animals:

  1. Connective tissues- provide shape and stability to different organs and are the primary supporting tissues of the body.
  2. Example- bone, blood, ligaments, etc.
  3. Muscle tissues- involved in producing force & generating motion (either for locomotion or movement within the body).
  4. They are involved in maintaining posture, voluntary & involuntary movements, etc.
  5. Example- skeletal muscle(attached to bones), cardiac muscle (in the heart), etc.
  6. Nervous tissue- is the main component of the brain and the spinal cord (in the central nervous system).
  7. They form the communication network in the body.
  8. Epithelial tissues- cover the external parts of the body organs and line the organ surfaces (e.g., reproductive tract, digestive tract, etc.).
  9. They provide strength and resistance to different organs; are also involved in various metabolic activities like sensory reception, excretion, etc.
  10. Therefore, all tissues are not the same.
