Question

Bleaching action of O3 is permanent while SO2 is temporary. How?

Solution

Both sulphur dioxide and ozone are good bleaching agents. Bleaching action of ozone is based on oxidation while that of sulphur is based on reduction.
Ozone produce oxygen and nascent oxygen. This nascent oxygen bleaches the colour permanently.
Sulphur dioxide removes oxygen from the coloured substance and makes it colourless. Again it combines with atmospheric oxygen and the colour is regained. So its not a permanent bleaching
