Sclereids:

  1. Sclereids are dead cells that are irregular in shape.
  2. These are found in the parts of the plants like the cortex, pith, phloem, etc.

Based on the shape, sclereids are of three types, namely,

  1. Brachy-sclereids: These are isodiametric(equal size in all directions) cells and are called stone cells.
  2. Macro-sclereids: These are usually rod-shaped and elongated sclereids and are called rod cells.
  3. Osteo-sclereids: These are also rod-shaped sclereids with dilated or wider ends and are called bone cells..
