Solution

The substances present in the question can be categorised as a true solution, colloid and suspension

  • True solution: Solute particles dissolved in solvent and form solution. These particles are not visible to our naked eye. Dissolved particles have a size of less than 1 nm
  • Colloids: In this type of substance dispersed phase and dispersion medium are present and they show a light scattering phenomenon called the Tyndall effect. Particles have a size range of 1-1000 nm
  • Suspension: Particles having a size greater than 1000 nm are suspended in the medium which is visible with our naked eye and settle down after sometime

So, substances can be classified as follows:

True solution: sodium chloride in water, copper sulphate dissolved in water

Colloids: milk, fog, oil in water

Suspension: sand in water
