Question

Construct the perpendicular bisector of a line segment of length 10 cm and measure the length of each part of the line segment formed by the bisector.

Steps:
  1. Draw a line segment AB of length 10 cm.
  2. Take a compass and place it on point A.
  3. With compass opening more than 5 cm draw arcs on both sidea of the line AB.
  4. Now place the compass on point B and draw arcs on both the sides of line AB cutting the previous drawn arcs.
  5. Join the points of intersection of the arcs i.e. M and N.
  6. MN is the required perpendicular bisector of line segment AB.
  7. Measure length of AP and PB = 5 cm, because we know that any perpendicular bisector divides the line segment into two equal parts.
