Solution
The exercise causes muscles to contract heavily. This increases the demand of oxygen and the release of adrenaline via the command of sympathetic nervous system increases the respiratory rate as well as the heart rate. The increased respiratory rate will allow more intake of oxygen and increased heart rate will allow quick delivery of the oxygenated blood to the tissues.
Gaseous exchange in the lungs occurs at the alveoli. Alveoli are supplied with blood capillaries. The oxygen diffuses into the blood and carbon dioxide diffuses out of the blood due to the differences in the partial pressures.
