Question

Define molar conductivity. How it is related with conductivity.

Open in App
Solution

Molar Conductivity: The conductance of 1 mole solution of an electrolyte is known as molar conductance. It is denoted by Λm.
The molar conductivity Λm of an electrolyte may be defined as the conductance of a volume of a solution containing one mole of a dissolved substance.

Relation with Conductivity: Conductance of 1 ml of solution is conductivity (k)
Conductance of 1 ml electrolyte =k
Conductance of 100 ml electrolyte =1000 k
M=nV=n1000nCr
M=n
Conductance of M moles=1000 k
Conductance of M moles=1000 kM
And conductance of 1 mole solution of electrolyte is Λm
Λm=1000×kM
