Describe one experiment to show that liquids expand on heating.

Solution

Aim: To show that liquid expands on heating.
Equipment required: A beaker, tripod stand, burner, water and ink.
Procedure:
  1. Fill the beaker with water and drop ink in water.
  2. Carefully observe the ink.
  3. Heat the solution using a Bunsen burner.
Observation: We will notice that the ink settles on the base of beaker. On heating, the color of solution changes to faint ink color.
Conclusion: The above observation shows that water expands on heating.
