Definitions:


  1. Plant cells are the basic unit of life in organisms of plants and Algae.
  2. The cellular structure that forms the structure of a few unicellular organisms and multicellular animals are called animal cells.

Differences:

PLANT CELL ANIMAL CELL
Plant cells possess cell walls together with the cell membrane.Animal cells do not possess cell wall and only possess the cell membrane.
Chloroplasts are present in plant cells.Animal cells do not possess chloroplasts.
Plant cells are more rigid and are generally rectangular in shape with no inter-cellular spaces.Animal cells are less rigid and hence animal cells can have different shapes based on their functions.
Plant cells possess large central vacuoles.Animal cells have few small vacuoles.
Cilia rarely occur in plant cells.Cilia are present in animal cells.
Higher plant cells do not possess centrioles.Animal cells contain centrosomes with centrioles.
Reserve food is generally in the form of starch.Reserve food is usually glycogen.
Plant cells have no or fewer lysosomes.Animal cells possess many lysosomes.
