Simple Ions	Compound Ions
The positively or negatively charged species containing a single atom are known as simple ions.	The positively or negatively charged species containing a group of atoms are known as compound ions.
Contain only one atom.	Contain two or more atoms.
Also known as monoatomic ions.	Also known as polyatomic ions.
Example: lithium ion $\left({\mathrm{Li}}^{+}\right)$, fluoride ion $\left({\mathrm{F}}^{-}\right)$	Example: Ammonium ion $\left({\mathrm{NH}}_4^{+}\right)$, Hydroxide ion $\left({\mathrm{OH}}^{-}\right)$.
