Freedom Struggle - a prolonged freedom struggle ensured that a broad consensus was reached regarding the need of a constitutional democracy.
The Nehru Report - the 1928 report by Motilal Nehru along with 8 other members of the congress drafted a constitution for India which served as a kind of prelude to the future constitution.
Karachi Session - the Karachi session of congress in 1931, dwelt on how independent India’s constitution should look like. The resolution passed agreed with the Nehru Report on including - universal adult franchise, right to freedom and equality and protection of the rights of minorities in the constitution of independent India.
Familiarity with Colonial Rule - thousands of Indians worked at British political institutions and gained experience. Along with this several institutional details and procedures were adopted from colonial laws like the Government of India Act, 1935.
International Influences - our constitution-makers observed and adopted certain aspects of the constitution from several countries. For example- the practice of parliamentary democracy from Britain, the Bill of Rights from the US and the idea of a system based on social and economic equality from Russia.
