Diwali, the festival of lights arrived. To get rid of the old look that Ted’s home had acquired, he decided to get it painted. The painter asked for ₹5 per square meter.
To get the wall (total area including the door dimensions=8 m × 4 m) as shown in the figure painted, how much money does Ted need to pay? The dimensions of the door are 2.4 m and 1.2 m.
The wall and door are in the shape of a rectangle.
Area of a rectangle with length ‘l’ and breadth ‘b’= l × b
Since the door is not to be painted, we have to subtract the area of door from total area given.
Total area = 8 m × 4 m = 32 m2
Door’s area = 2.4 m × 1.2 m = 2.88 m2
Area to be painted =(32–2.88) m2=29.12 m2
Cost = ₹5/m2
Money to be paid to get the wall painted = ₹5m2 × 29.12 m2 = ₹145.6
