Solution

The correct option is B 12.5 miles
If we draw the entire journey from points A to D and join them, a right-angled triangle.

We can apply the Pythagoras theorem to calculate the length of AC.
According to the theorem,

(AC)2 = (BC)2 + (AB)2BC= 7 milesAB = 24 miles(AC)2 = (7)2 + (24)2(AC)2 = 49 + 576(AC)2 = 625AC = 625AC = 25 miles

His final position is the midpoint of AC.
Hence,

CD = AC2CD = 252CD = 12.5 m

Drek traveled 12.5 m from point C to reach D.
