Even when bark of a plant is peeled off, yet the leaves of the same remain turgid. How?
Xylem is undamaged
Xylem is intact
The leaves of the twig remain turgid since its xylem is intact and xylem is responsible for water conduction in plants.
Turgidity is the state of a cell when its vacuole is full of water so its contents are pushed against the cellwalls. The water molecules are attracted to each other by a force known as cohesion. They are also attracted to the walls of the tubes through which they travel or the xylem vessels.
Becasue of these properties, as long as the water column remains unbroken, turgidity remains intact.
