The process of transfer of pollen grains from the anther to stigma of similar or different flowers belonging to the same species is called pollination.
Based on the type of flowers involved, there are two types of pollination, which are self-pollination and cross-pollination.
Self-pollination: In self-pollination, the transfer of pollen occurs in the same flower from its anther present in the androecium to the stigma present in the gynoecium.
Cross-pollination: In cross-pollination, the pollen transfer occurs between two different flowers belonging to the same plant or a different plant.
The pollinating agents act as the medium for the transfer of pollen.
Common pollinating agents are wind, water, insects and animals which helps with cross-pollination of the flowers.
