Question

Explain vaporisation or boiling point.

Open in App
Solution

  1. According to the kinetic theory, mutual attractive forces between the liquid molecules are weak.
  2. The molecules are loosely bound and are free to move around within the liquid.
  3. At a certain temperature called boiling point, the liquid starts boiling.
  4. The molecules acquire sufficient energy to overcome the mutual attractive forces.
  5. The molecules become free and escape the liquid surface.
  6. At this stage, the liquid changes into the gaseous state by forming vapours, and the process is termed vaporisation.
