Solution

Atomic size

  • Atomic size basically refers to the radius of the atom. It increases down the group. Across a period the atomic radius first decreases and then increases.
  • When an element has 7 electrons in its valence shell, the effective nuclear charge will be higher. As a result, the nucleus would pull all the electrons towards itself and the atomic size thus would also decrease.

Thus, If an element has seven electrons in its outermost shell, then it is likely to have the smallest atomic size among all the elements in the same period.
