Find the fraction which becomes 12 when the denominator is increased by 4, and 18 when the numerator is diminished by 5

Let the fraction be xy.
The fraction becomes 12 when denominator is increased by 4.
Therefore, xy+4=12
2x=y+4
2xy=4 ....(1)
Now, the fraction is equal to18 when numerator is diminished by 5.
Therefore, x5y=18
8x40=y
8xy=40 ....(2)
Subtracting equations (1) and (2), we get
6x=36
x=6
Putting this value in equation (1), we get
2(6)y=4
12y=4
y=8
Therefore, the fraction is 68.
