Question

Give balanced equations with conditions,if any for the following conversions A to D.

A.Sodium Chloride to Hydrogen Chloride

B.Hydrogen Chloride to Iron [||] sulphide

C.Hydrogen chloride to ammonium chloride

D.Hydrogen Chloride to Lead chloride

Open in App
Solution

The reaction between sodium chloride to HCl is explained earlier.
Now the reaction of Hydrogen chloride to Iron sulphide is not possible
3. The reaction of hydrogen chloride to ammonium chloride. When HCl is mixed with ammonia gas ammonium chloride is formed
HCl + NH3 --> NH4Cl
4. Hydrogen chloride to Lead chloride. When lead metal reacts with hydrochloric acid lead chloride is formed along with liberation of hydrogen gas
Pb + 2HCl --> PbCl2 + H2
So the reaction 1,3,4 are possible while 2 is not possible.
