Question

Give equations of the reaction between hydrochloric acid and

(a) sodium oxide

Open in App
Solution

Hydrochloric acid (HCl) is a mono-basic acid. A mono-basic acid is a substance that produces only one hydrogen ion per molecule of the acid when completely dissociated in water.

When metal oxides react with acids, salt and water are produced.

A colorless aqueous solution of Sodium Chloride (NaCl) salt and water(H2O) are formed when Hydrochloric acid (HCl) reacts with Sodium oxide Na2O.

The reaction equation is as follows:

2HCl(aq)+Na2O(s)2NaCl(aq)+H2Ol
