Hydrochloric acid (HCl) is a monobasic acid. A monobasic acid is an acid that produces only one hydrogen ion per molecule of the acid when completely dissociated in water.

When acids metal oxides react with acids, corresponding salt, and water are produced. Copper(II) chloride (CuCl2) salt and water are formed when Hydrochloric acid (HCl) reacts with Copper(II) oxide CuO. The balanced reaction equation is as follows:
