Question

How can we calculate the weight of an ion

 of Oxygen gas?

Open in App
Solution

The molar mass of an ion is taken to be the same as that of the neutral atom since we dont assign masses to electrons; therefore the loss/gain in mass due to electron transfer is so negligible that the molar mass remains the same on paper.
so oxygen ion has oxygen mass itself
So it is 16u
