Liquid: Any material which has a definite volume but no definite shape and has one free surface.

Solid: any material which has a definite shape and definite volume at room temperature such that it can have any number of free surfaces.

  • When liquid is cooled it changes into solid.
  • The process of changing liquid into solid by cooling is called freezing.
  • When a liquid is cooled, its particles lose kinetic energy and so the force of attraction between its particles increases.
  • Due to which liquid changes into a solid.
