High blood pressure:

  1. It is also called hypertension.
  2. It is a condition in which arterial walls experience a very high force of blood.
  3. Sustained high blood pressure may cause certain heart disease and stroke.
  4. It might also affect the brain and kidneys.
  5. A pressure above 140/90 is said to be hypertension.

Effect of high blood pressure on gaseous exchange:

  1. The blood flowing with very high pressure might damage the small vessels present in the lungs and the extremely small alveolar surfaces.
  2. The major consequences of this high blood pressure would result in inadequate oxygen supply to the blood.
  3. Such a condition in which gaseous exchange is hampered due to high blood pressure is called pulmonary hypertension.
