Question

How does the amount of heat produced in a resistor depend upon current?

Open in App
Solution

  1. Whenever current flows in the circuit, resistance is offered to the flow of current in the circuit.
  2. Due to this resistance, there will be heat produced in a conductor.
  3. This heat produced by a resistor is given by, H=i2Rt and depends on three factors.
  1. It is directly proportional to the square of the current (i).
  2. It is directly proportional to the resistance of the conductor (R).
  3. It is directly proportional to the time for which the current flows (t).
