Flu is another type of infectious viral disease, which is fairly similar to the common cold, but both are caused by different viruses. Flu is caused by the influenza virus whereas the common cold is caused by Rhinovirus.
Symptoms of flu are generally worse when compared to the common cold because in flu, the lungs are also affected whereas in the common cold it is limited only to the upper respiratory tract. Since the lower respiratory tract is involved, symptoms arise abruptly.
In flu, serious health complications can happen as it may lead to pneumonia and even can lead to death of an infected individual.
