Question

How would you separate a mixture of copper (II) oxide and copper (II) sulphate?

Open in App
Solution

Due to slightly non-polar nature of copper oxide, it is insoluble in water whereas copper sulphate is soluble in water. Hence, distilled water should be added to the mixture and the mixture should be filtered to remove copper oxide from it. The filtrate should then be evaporated until the solution is saturated. After few hours of cooling, we will be left with copper sulphate crystals
