(a) copper nitrate.
(b) copper carbonate.
(c) copper sulphate.

Solution

(a) On heating, copper nitrate decomposes to give copper (II) oxide, nitrogen dioxide and oxygen.

2Cu(NO3)2 Heat 2CuO + 4NO2 + O2Copper nitrate Copper (II) oxide

(b) On heating, copper carbonate decomposes to give copper (II) oxide and liberates carbon dioxide gas.

CuCO3 Heat CuO + CO2Copper carbonate Copper (II) oxide

(c) Copper sulphate reacts with a base like sodium hydroxide to form copper hydroxide and sodium sulphate by double
decomposition reaction. O
n heating, copper hydroxide further decomposes to give copper (II) oxide.

CuSO4 +2NaOH Cu(OH)2 + Na2SO4 Copper hydroxide Cu(OH)2 Heat CuO + H2OCopper hydroxide Copper (II) oxide
