If 10 trains can transport 180 tonnes of goods in 10 days, how many trains are required to transport 135 tonnes of goods in 5 days? (3 marks)

Let the number of required trains be x.

Trains Goods Days
10 180 10
x 135 5

Since, the goods are more, then more trains are required to transport. So it is direct proportion, the multiplying factor is 135/180.
(1 mark)

Again if less days, less number of trains required. So it is also a direct proportion, the multiplying factor is 5/10.
(1 mark)

x=10×(135/180)×(5/10)=3.75
(1 mark)
