Finding the possible value of a-ib:

Step 1:Square both the above equation,

Given relation a+ib=x+iy

a+ib=x+iy2=x2-y2+i2xy

Step 2: Compare the real and imaginary parts, obtain

a=x2-y2b=2xy

From above

a-ib=x2-y2-i2xy=x-iy2

Take square roots on both the sides of the above equation,

a-ib=x-iy

Hence, the value of a-ib is x-iy.
