Solution

Given that the mean of five observation x,x+2,x+4,x+6 and x+8 is 13.
we know that

mean=sum of observationsnumber of observations

13=x+(x+2)+(x+4)+(x+6)+(x+8)5

13=5x+205

13=5(x+4)5

13=x+4

x+4=13 value of x=9

x=134

x=9
