Question

If there are 999 bases in an RNA that codes for a protein with 333 amino acids and the base at position 901 is deleted such that the length of the RNA becomes 998 bases, how many codons will be altered ?
  1. 1
  2. 11
  3. 33
  4. 333

Solution

The correct option is C 33
Deletion of a base at 901 position means upto 900 initial bases remain same i.e., 300 amino acids do not change. The remaining i.e., 33 (333- 300) amino acids will change. Therefore, 33 codons will be altered.
