In an organisation, it is found that the workers have made their informal groups, and the supervisor of production department is their informal leader. Any instruction given by that supervisor (for official matters) is taken casually and lightly by the members of the group. This has resulted in either non-completion of work or delay in work. A feedback was taken from the employees which suggested gaps between expectations of the supervisor and actual work performance.
(i) Which form of communication can you determine from the case study?
(ii) In the context of the above case study, please specify limitations of this form of communication.
(i) Informal communication.
(ii) The limitations of informal communication, in the context of the case study, are :
(a) Unsystematic communication : The supervisor was unable to convey important instructions to the production department.
(b) Unreliable information : Information provided by supervisor in the informal groups leads to difficulties in decision - making and undependable associations. Thus, work completion did not match with the expectations of the supervisor.
(c) Incomplete information : The casual attitude may have led to incomplete information about work deadlines, leading to delay and gaps between expectations of the supervisor and actual work performance.
